I thought this book was interesting and very well written.
I thought this book was intersting and very well written. I was so absorbed in this book I did not want to put it down. It was exciting from the very beginning to the last few words at the end. Johnny Ray Barnes described everything so vividly. I highly recommend this book to any reader who likes Strange Matter.

Planet Ocean: A Story of Life, the Sea, and Dancing to the Fossil Record
Published in Hardcover by Ten Speed Press (November, 1994)
Authors: Brad Matsen and Ray Troll
Average review score:

A beautiful, well-written view of past life in the ocean!
This book was a pleasure to read- even though it was mostly facts (and this is coming from a teenager)! Sure, I love learning about evolution and fossils, but I rarely sit down to read long, boring books about it. But this book is fresh, colorful, full of information, and INTERESTING!!! I congratulate the author and illustrator for putting out such a masterpiece! It is sure to recruit paleontologists for the next generation!

Plants of Southern Interior British Columbia
Published in Paperback by Lone Pine Publishing (January, 1996)
Authors: Robert Parish, Dennis Lloyd, and Ray Cope
Average review score:

Excellent technical field manual for novice and professional
I spent the summer 1998 field season working in the Glacier National Park, Montana area on the Greater Glacier Bear DNA Project. Pursuant to our study we were required to analyze Grizzly bear habitat and plant species identification played a key role in the succes of our field work. This book was an invaluable field companion. It functioned as both a key, and reference manual. There was not one species encountered in the field that was not contained in this book. Not only does it contain good photos to aid in identification, but description and background material give both novice and professional assurance of correct identification. This book cover trees, shrubs, perrenials, mosses, lichens, and liverworts. During 3 1/2 months of remote backcountry research, it was always in my pack.

What a Gem.
I bought this book 3 years ago and totally love it.The plant info and the photographs are beautiful. A lot of the info comes from Natives and give the readers information on what the plants can be used for like remedies for toothaches etc. The photographs, over 1000 of them, are all done in colour and are absolutely beautiful. I would have paid 3 times the amount for this book. A must for the outdoorsman.

The Pocket Guide to Bridge
Published in Paperback by Master Point Press (March, 2002)
Authors: Barbara Seagram and Ray Lee
Average review score:

Excellent Introduction to Bridge!
This is a book that really lives up to its billing as a pocket-sized yet thorough introduction to bridge. The only beef with this book is that most of it is devoted to bidding, with a tiny portion at the end for play and defence. I expect the authors to issue a sequel on play and defense. That aside the material itself is outstanding and clear, and at a surprisingly good level of bridge for an introductory book. I would definitely recommend it as a handy reference for someone starting out in bridge.

Poems by Ray
Published in Hardcover by Winston-Derek Pub (September, 1994)
Author: Ray Ellis
Average review score:

A portrait of where life has been, where life is going
This book is a "Poetical snap-shot" of Rays' world. Touching, tender and hauntingly insightful. Sometimes very real as in the Poem entitled "Back to Back" 'Yes once again here are we, inbetween what was and what is to be.

Our past and future stand back to back, the eyes look ahead, the memory looks back.'

The opening verse of "Together on the Ark" serves well as a wake-up-call to humanity, we all should heed the admonition here.

The last line of the book, is a warning to all of us; "Even though you image is gone, what had cast it still remains forever."

All in all, the book is wonderful. I count as one of my lucky days, the one I happen to meet Ray Ellis. He has a beautiful world, he has shared it with all of us through his book.

Poems of Madness: And Angel
Published in Paperback by Water Row Press (01 October, 1986)
Author: Ray Bremser
Average review score:

Mad Poet
This is a must for any fan of the Beat Generation...the first published works of Ray Bremser, a poet so dedicated to his craft that he made his wife turn tricks to support him so he could survive as a poet. He also convinced her to sell their child so he could use the money to get out of Mexican prison. That, of course, has nothing to do with the poems contained within this volume but doesn't it just make you wonder what sort of verse a man like that would come up with? A heavy dose of jazz verse for the serious-minded bohemian.
